Laser Engraving Process for Marine Switch Caps
4.1 How the Process Works
The caps of marine switches are typically marked using laser engraving technology. The process is as follows:
- Material Preparation – The switch cap is made of high-strength engineering plastics (e.g., PC, ABS) or coated metal. These materials have high absorption rates for specific laser wavelengths, enabling fine marking.
- Laser Engraving – A fiber or CO₂ laser beam instantly vaporizes or melts the material surface, creating permanent indentations or color changes. Engraving depth and contrast can be precisely controlled by adjusting laser power, frequency, and speed.
- Contrast Enhancement (Optional) – For light-colored or transparent caps, a special laser marking paint may be pre-applied. After engraving, excess coating is removed to create high-contrast dark marks.
- Cleaning & Inspection – After engraving, ultrasonic cleaning or air blowing removes debris. Optical inspection ensures symbols are clear, accurately positioned, and free of burrs.

4.2 Advantages of Laser Engraving
Advantage Description
Permanent & Wear-Resistant Symbols are embedded into the material surface – no ink peeling, resistant to salt spray, seawater erosion, and repeated wiping
High Contrast White/light marks on dark materials; dark marks on light materials – clearly visible even in low-visibility underwater environments
Eco-Friendly No chemicals or inks, no consumables – meets marine and deep-sea environmental requirements
High Precision Capable of engraving complex symbols (circuit symbols, warning icons, text, QR codes) with line widths as fine as 0.1mm
Extreme Environment Resistant Symbols do not degrade or change color due to high/low temperature, pressure, or UV exposure
Non-Contact Process No mechanical stress on the switch – sealing integrity remains unaffected
4.3 Custom Symbol Acceptance
We accept custom symbol engraving for marine switch caps. Details are as follows:
Customization Item Description
Acceptable Content Switch status (ON/OFF), function icons (lights, pumps, battery, emergency stop), equipment IDs, logos, warning symbols, QR/barcodes
File Format Requirements Vector graphics (AI, CDR, DXF, DWG) or high-resolution bitmaps (PSD, PNG, ≥300 DPI)
Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) No MOQ for standard symbols; for complex patterns or logos, MOQ ≥ 100 pieces recommended
Engraving Location Top surface, side, or recessed areas – location drawings required
Color Options Default: dark base → white/light gray marks; light base → black/dark gray marks (other color combinations available upon request)
Sampling Service Free sample engraving available (customer provides sample cap or covers material cost). Sampling lead time: 3-5 business days
Mass Production Lead Time 7-15 business days after artwork approval (depending on quantity)
Important Note: The laser engraving process does not affect the switch's sealing performance, pressure rating, or electrical parameters. Both pre- and post-engraving samples undergo random airtightness testing to ensure product consistency.
